Restaurant Design

Helping You Get the Best Value

Balancing Ambiance and Profit

Inside of El Torito
The ideal restaurant design balances comfort for the patrons with maximizing seating capacity to increase the profitability for the Owner. Of course, a lot of these decisions are based on the type of restaurant, cuisine offerings and chosen location. For example, fine dining restaurants will want to focus more efforts on the ambiance and interior design of their space where as more quick service restaurants or QSR will focus efforts on efficient layouts, customer flow and maximizing seating arrangements.

At SCGWest, we have decades of experience in the design, layout, look and feel of all types of restaurants. We specialize in floor and kitchen plan layouts, finish selections, equipment selections and engineering. With our expertise and experience, you will love
the end result, we guarantee it!

With any Restaurant Design, solid communication is the foundation for the design process.
The owner and SCGWest will carefully plan and consider all the programmatic functional elements to be integrated for a successful restaurant.
There are numerous factors that will influence how the design of a proposed space will
evolve to its final built form.

The arrangement of these spaces relies on a strong understanding of the building
program that we develop.

Any Restaurant Design Project Consists of

Basic Planning Needs

Clear circulation allowing for a natural flow
Patron entry and waiting area should be adjacent to the dining or lounge areas
If walk-up Service of Take Out Service is provided, locate the Take Out Counter near main lobby, but not to create a conflict between the dine in customers, waiting areas and take out customers
Design Restrooms that visually always look clean, are ADA compliant and to minimize construction costs try to centralize plumbing
Keep Back of House functions flowing efficiently to the service entry
Remember that the Kitchen is often the hub of activity
Separate customer / patron circulation from employee / staff circulation

Potential Influences Upon the

Building Program and Restaurant Design

Site and Building Orientation
Access to roads and public circulation
Delivery Access
Views and Visibility – Visual Opportunities
Location of existing building systems (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing)
"Curb appeal" for highest visual marketability of the Restaurant
Specific Preparation process for the kitchen to achieve the cuisine (i.e. visible and open cooking areas)
Level of privacy desired for the dining areas (Cozy and intitmate, or more communal and open)

The Next Steps Following Your Restaurant Design

Helping You Identify and Plan

Your Perfect Project

The pre-design and construction project development phase is the foundation to the success of any project. It is where visions begin to take shape, important decisions are made, and innovative solutions are explored. Our tested team approaches this phase with a keen eye on all aspects of a project and how they interconnect throughout each phase to eliminate surprises, maximize budgets, shorten schedules, and provide truly positive experiences to our clients.

The vast number of tasks to complete before opening is mind-boggling. Securing and designing the space, setting budgets and schedules and identifying long lead items represent just a few of the time-consuming responsibilities project teams must tackle.

Long lead items represent just a few of the time-consuming responsibilities project teams must tackle.

Concept development and operations management may be among restaurant owners’ core competencies, but few have expertise managing the design and construction tasks that come with opening a new location.

SCGWest’ team approach provides the expertise and capability in all of these facets. In fact, we are able to handle the entire design and construction process so corporate or franchise owners can focus on their core business. Considering the significant risks that come with opening a new restaurant or retail space and the importance of getting the design and construction of the venue right, SCGWest provides valuable insight and partners with owners to ensure a smooth process during the complete project cycle.
